TLCMap is a system hosted by the University of Newcastle Australia. All users must comply with the University of Newcastle’s Information Technology Conditions of Use Policy.

Searching and browsing information in TLCMap:

  • TLCMap is an open information platform. Data contributed to TLCMap is not vetted or checked by administrators. Please check the metadata and sources and exercise your own judgement on the validity of the information.
  • Please report any issues or misuse to TLCMap administrators.
  • While TLCMap encourages open data, all information in TLCMap is covered by copyright law. Please check any terms and conditions of use related to map layers before re-using.

Contributing data (map layers) to TLCMap:

  • TLCMap administrators may remove or disable any content or account at any time. This is to avoid misuse of the platform, in the best interests of all users.
  • All contributed data (map layers) must comply with copyright law. You, the contributor are responsible for information published using this platform.
  • All data (map layers) should comply with the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research (2018) and its associated guidelines framework. This includes Ethical guidelines for research with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
  • In addition, all data involving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should comply with the most up to date ethical research advice as published on the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) website.

Data contributed to TLCMap should:

  • indicate the owner;
  • where possible, be open, to enable discoverability of information and wide dissemination of research;
  • follow FAIR and CARE principles.
  • include details of any issues with accuracy, completeness and reliability;
  • undergo appropriate ethics approval (including consideration for whether participants are consenting for the use of their data for a particular project only, or for extended (related research) or unspecified (any future research);
  • include details of any privacy, licencing and access considerations; and
  • where appropriate, have undergone appropriate community consultation (i.e in the instance of sacred/significant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sites).
